The Nashbill Rating System
Here is a breakdown of my rating system, a simple 1 through 5 with some specific critiques at each whole number. Each review will be assigned a number to the tenth. Rating are entirely subjective to my palate.
5: Perfection
undeniable goats, buy immediately no matter the price. This is a rare designation and only reserved for an elite and upper echelon TASTING whiskey/bourbon — the name, age statement, brand exclusivity, nor allocation status will be weighed into these ratings.
4: BNAP
Buy now, apologize later. Unlikely to find this bottle for a semi-reasonable price, but if you do (whatever your budget may be), buy it and apologize to your wife later. This is the no regret tier.
3: AYC
At your convenience. Buy if you can, but no big rush, considered a very solid bottle of whiskey/bourbon. Statistically, most pours will fall in this range— think some of your favorite mid-level to cheap whiskeys/bourbons. You shouldn’t be paying more than MSRP for the bottles that fall in this range.
2: TRO
Tasting room only. There’s no use in buying the bottle, in fact, you’re better off just mooching from a friend or from a tasting menu or a bar you happen to be visiting. This rating will likely be applicable to a lot of novelty whiskeys and will house a lot of “try, not buy” whiskeys.
1: Don’t Bother
This is another rare designation. There are very few whiskeys in the world that could even hold this designation, for I am a man that does not waste. But the whiskeys in this range you shouldn’t even bother to look at on the shelf unless you can find a way to get it for free. Even then, that is a stretch. That bottle will stare at you on your shelf until you rot.
